Corrugated boxes are a type of packaging made from corrugated fiberboard, which consists of a fluted (wavy) inner layer sandwiched between two flat linerboards. This unique structure gives the material exceptional strength and cushioning properties, making it ideal for protecting goods during shipping and handling.

General Introduction

The primary advantage of corrugated boxes is their high strength-to-weight ratio. The fluted layer acts as a shock absorber, providing rigidity and resistance to crushing, while the flat liners provide a smooth surface for printing and stacking. They are typically made from renewable resources like wood pulp and are fully recyclable.

Key Applications

Corrugated boxes are the workhorse of the packaging industry, used across virtually every sector:

  • Shipping & Logistics: The most common use, for transporting everything from consumer goods to industrial parts.

  • E-commerce & Retail: Used as primary packaging for online orders, often with custom printing for branding.

  • Food & Beverage: For shipping produce, dry goods, and frozen foods (often with wax coatings for moisture resistance).

  • Moving & Storage: Heavy-duty versions are used for household moves and long-term storage.

  • Display & Point-of-Sale: Corrugated material is also used to create in-store displays and shelf-ready packaging.
